With work from home becoming a new trend; the future of the socio-economic side of the world is in dangerous hands.

Work from home is a new unfortunate condition institutions have had to adjust to. The unforeseen pandemic made us adapt to new working conditions. However, as situations ease up, employees remain adamant about continuing working out of their bedrooms.

This is a sad turnout as working from home is becoming the "new normal", and it is plummeting the potential of our world's future. The existing working population is dominated by Boomers and Generation X (your parents) - they realise the importance of physical working spaces - however - we, the Millennials and Gen-Zs, majority of us are stupid.

Plain stupid.

In India, it is becoming an up and coming trend for learned college graduates to opt for "work from home" options over a working office space. The virus is now being modelled as an excuse than a genuine reason. The youngsters on whose potential the world is to grow those youngsters only are moving backwards.

Microsoft, Google, Apple, and Zoom, are all now facing work from home challenges. These leading firms first accepted work from home (allowing their employees to stay home and work), now after realising the issues in communication/coordination/execution, they are all adopting/pushing for hybrid working conditions.

However, the issue with working from home is not just limited to the business world. If we analyse the situation, we can understand that the real problem with working from home will reflect in our mentalities. As we shut ourselves from the world around us, we become slower, more numb, and dumber; at this rate, we as youngsters are destined to ill-perform.

The perks of moving to a physical working space are immeasurable. It is not just the tasks that you finish; it is to do with the idea of learning from the people around you.

I know you catch a yawn after lunch, but when you sit beside someone working faster after their feast - you tighten up. I know you take 20 minutes off in the middle of your work to scroll Insta, but when you are inside a fast-moving environment - you become productive. I know you take shortcuts and find ways to avoid Zoom meetings, but when you don't have the option - you work.

Growth in a working space is unaccountable because you are not just executing your tasks but also learning from the people around you. Ask your parents about their opinion on working from home and I am certain that they will tell you how they are saddened by this new adopted working strategy.

Essentially, working from home is simultaneously impacting the business sector explicitly and our mentalities implicitly. Both in a negative manner.

It is a sad practice everyone is seemingly adopting, and trust me when I say this: if we do not stop, if we do not come back to our physical working spaces, the future will be darker than we imagined. So try and step out (safely) when possible, try and become one with the world out there and stop (if you do) finding short comfortable cuts in your room in there.

May it be a request or advice, just do it.
