Ola drivers have begun tampering with the app to charge customers higher than the pre-requisite fair. Mumbai police to take charge of the case. This news which might uncover into a larger scam. 3 Ola drivers are currently arrested for increasing the fair prices to lakhs of rupees by using tampering location apps. By simply downloading apps from the play store the drives have been able to create fake locations for their phone.

Ola drivers are paid on the basis of commission of their services. The drivers were using various softwares to book fake cabs, and place made up destinations, which when reached by the driver resulted in massive costs to be incurred by the firm. It took sometime for the Ola softwares to narrow down on this problem, however, the drivers had already removed all their data and detached themselves from the services Ola was providing to them.

The drivers then signed up once again using a new name and more sim cards to do the same. They started using more than 500 sim cards to avoid the system, so that they can earn more money. Ola also pays their workers for the fuel they put in to provide the service to the customers. Thus, the drivers not only gained commission but also money for the unused fuel.

As this scam is uncovered, more aspects of the business come to question. The driver's might use the cancellation fees which are paid by the customers as an advantage. By accepting the ride and ignoring the customer and frustrating them, the drivers can wait for the customer to cancel the trip and benefit from the cancellation penalty that the customer will pay.

This in the public opinion other than just a problem for the management also becomes a problem in terms of trust. Something which due to past assault, harassment, and abuse cases were already a large issue faced by this sector in the shared economy. This problem poses one more threat to the public opinion in regards to Ola and various other companies.

It is important to understand how the firm is thinking of coming back from this, as this news hits the headline sooner or later. Defamation on one side, just a court case won't do. The firm must look at some basic marketing strategies to turn this negative publicity into a home run. Apple came out with a massive, sleek, and simple campaign which became an eye catcher for most with their take on privacy. It is important Ola do something similar so that their firm does not loses its reputation and maintains its position in the public eye.
