Oreo, after a decade launches a strong campaign, supporting the LGBTQ+ community through its recent turmoil.

Recently, Florida and Texas have passed laws which portray hostility against the LGBTQ+ community in the United States. Florida has passed a "Don't Say Gay" bill - which denies and restricts educational opportunities based on sexual orientation and gender identity - while, Texas has passed a law where non-binary individuals can be denied medical services.

Proactive in its stance regarding the LGBTQ+ community, Oreo has released a short film. The short film, titled "The Note", takes a journey to showcase a teenager's coming out story. Mass media rarely acknowledges the large emotional context behind the idea of "coming out" and Oreo Cookies ensures to highlight that very aspect.

The entire short film, directed by Alice Wu, is a deep and well-thought-out piece on how social acceptance is integral for members of the LGBTQ+ community. As part of the "woke companies" (a set of companies that are progressive and actively demonstrate resentment against conservative laws), Oreo Cookies has never shied away from an opportunity to raise support for the non-binary (excuse the usage of the word).

Oreo Cookies, just like Disney, believe that they play an essential role in cultivating a just future for all members of our society. The exclusionary practices adopted in Florida and Texas represent a regressive way of thinking, while mass-media is taking steps to accurately demonstrate the "truth" about the non-binary (excuse the way the word is used).

However, we must understand that this is not an advert that Oreo is circulating. Neither is the short film attempting to advertise the company. Oreo is working as a platform to ensure that the community that has been fighting for its rights is not forgotten and marginalised.

Working extremely well with Oreo's "family brand" identity - the short film highlights the importance of family and their role in a non-binary individual's life.

Overall, Oreo's retaliation is necessary, as people have somewhat forgotten the struggle non-binary people went through to make their voices heard. With the strong film, the fire of pride is reignited and hopefully will result in the improvement of state laws.
