Social Media is an integral aspect of our life, but what is the toll?

Social media is a lifeline. It is something without which your day does not start or end. You will wake up surf Insta, and before sleeping, you will be surfing Insta. But one thing is known: social media is essential/dear to us. The knowledge we gain from it, our global awareness and sensitivity is unparalleled because of the global networks we have established.
However, even after gaining so much "awareness", I still have a question: why do you feel hollow inside?
Social Media has assisted you in knowing about things, but my question is: how much do you know about yourself?
I target social media because it is part of our lifestyle, and it has a deeper impact on our mentality than any other thing. It is an addiction everyone is in on. Social media is no longer just a medium of communication, and it is no longer just a fast-moving platform where you will be able to exchange ideas.
Social media is a distraction now.
How many times have you picked up your phone to look at Instagram or TikTok or Reddit even when you did not have a notification? Why do you constantly look at your phone waiting for a notification? Why do you have the urge to pick your phone at all when there is no need?
Due to the fast-moving ignorant world that we live in today, we wish to stop learning about ourselves and just remain mentally numb. Free time is no longer free time; your "me" time is not "me" time anymore. Free or me, both of them are just time slots that you have carved out to go further away from yourself.
Teenagers today are constantly worried about their emotions and thoughts; there is a lack of personal understanding. It is increasingly difficult for us to know what we are exactly thinking; why is that? Why is it that we as a generation are cognitively deprived? It is because we actually never took the time to learn about ourselves.
We are too scared to spend time with us. How many times have you been in a position where you are not doing anything and just with yourself in the past week? If you had to think hard about that question, then you have some work to do.
I do not believe that stopping social media or mobile use is an answer to anything, but trying to be more aware and conscious about when and why you are using it is the key. I also do it, I pick up my phone more than 100 times a day, and 60% of those times is just because I wish to distract myself. Why are you scared of your own self, scared to not even spend time with yourself?
I simply believe that social media made us aware and ignorant simultaneously. You may know everything about the world, but you can never say that about yourself. So you answer the title: Is Social Media making us more aware?
I believe not, and if you do too... then take 10 minutes out of the 1440 minutes of a day. Do not do anything, do not pick up your phone, do not read anything, do not watch anything, nothing at all. Take those 10 minutes and just sit ideal... and try and become more "aware" about yourself.
It is a difficult task, but give it a shot - it is worth it.
