COVID's toll on the Centre.

After a disturbingly poor performance in handling COVID, BJP continues their series of downfall into the West-Bengal elections.

BJP, after their mass performances in a social-distancing environment, again celebrated a pre-mature victory with the slogan "2 May, Didi Gayi". Well, that was not the case. BJP today has lost 4/5 Vidhan Sabha Elections (Losses in West-Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala. Won in: Assam). This not only indicates the lost faith towards the existing leaders, but this also represents a retaliation against the centre due to the mismanaged COVID situation.
BJP government has been exposed over the last few months; both in national and international eyes. Striken away of the "Free-State" status, embarrassed by the Supreme Court due to wrongful prosecution, farmer protests, CAA and now the COVID cases; the government has taken one too many blows consecutively.
As trust begins to fade, the government's seats do too.
Many states are reverting to the older days by re-electing their older leaders and stomping over the BJP option. The COVID situation has truly taken a toll on the reputation of this government. The reason being: things were bad, but they became worse.
The centre - due to poor management - failed to work towards the welfare of the general public as they were too busy attempting to gain power across the country. Now they find themselves between a rock and a hard place; a situation from which Narendra Modi would easily escape due to his gift of oration - however, now it does not seem to be an option.
Comparisons with UK and Italy are being drawn - and the humanity of the Indian subcontinent is celebrated in comparison to New York "Bus-Load" of dead bodies. However, the saddening reality is that comparing to UK in this COVID situation is like comparing one garbage dump to another. Italy as a comparison is incorrect, as the country is facing an all-time low COVID cases and deaths. Humanity - the comparison to New York - is not accredited to the centre; it is the culture of India and not something which remains to be an outcome of the centre.
The centre, however, is accredited for other things which have been listed above. There is turmoil and a roller-coster which somehow, simultaneously and constantly are going in the wrong direction.
A handful of citizens believe in BJP, plausibly due to the lack of a second option. But please note that the government has well and truly failed - the Health Minister believes that "India is better equipped to defeat COVID than it was in 2020" while he continued to ignore many state pleas for oxygen. While this occurred, the Prime and Home Minster had occupied themselves with elections in the south.
The lack of focus, action, proper management, and correct resource allocation has caused a nationwide collapse. This tolls on BJP today, as it loses many elections - and possibly will come to bite them again in the future.
Again, the situation was bad, but now it is worse.
