Does India deserve Democracy?

With an uproar of societal problems, and global degradation of the State's status, the concept of freedom comes under fire.

Freedom is a debatable concept. The very presence of freedom is something not everyone agrees on. Freedom is an illusion is a true debate, and sadly there is no black and white to the fundamentals of freedom. However, for once, if we assume that we are free in the most literal sense, that we are free according to our constitution, can we truly raise the question: Does India deserve Democracy?
Democracy is a subset of freedom, coming out of the concept of liberalisation and suffrage, in terms of voicing opinions. By believing that we are free today can we truly understand whether we as Indians can be trusted with democracy, and whether India can develop with democracy.
There are certain pointers which come to mind: corruption, manipulation, unethical use of power, and many more concepts which completely throw the very concept of voting for your leader in the wrong. However, it is truly understood that the literal meaning of democracy is an idealistic situation which would lead to nothing but good, similar to the Marxist ideologies, anyhow, in the real world the problem arises as Democracy breaks its literal meaning and it becomes overtly connected to its citizen's personal lives.
The reason politics in India is a topic which everyone discusses is due to the involvement and impact it has on every person. Tax, Interest, and rules are very basic examples. I would like to speak about the societal conflicts, discrimination, development, and religious divide; which present around us impact us in an intangible manner. Today democracy on paper is simple, campaign, vote, elect and repeat. However, this simplicity which was truly the beauty of democracy no longer exists.
The reason behind India's descent from a free state to partially free, as covered in the last post, being one of the causes.
India's politics is ugly, the very basic procedure through which democracy is to be followed is foiled. The campaign is no longer pure, BJP had actively manipulated and used their powers in order to selectively impose the Election Committee's Model Code of Conduct in order to ensure that oppositions do notgain popularity and put up a fight.
The idea of voting is a large discussion, but in one word it is: broken.
The future of a nation is decided by people who do not have the ability to plan their own future. The individuals which do not earn, or are not in the position to earn, people easily bought off and manipulated are the ones which hold the majority populous in India, and those are the ones that decide everyone's fate. The voting system is simply shambolic. Finally the concept of being elected; representing the mass. "By the people, for the people".
Probably a statement understood by all, but realised by none.
The presence of the societal conflicts, and the various causes due to which India has been deemed "Partially Free", is evidence for why the statement of being "for the people" need not apply to this state's politics.
India, has failed democracy. It has actively deteriorated the value of democracy and the liberalisation it got in terms of societal decisions, as it gives in to basic human needs of power and comfort, which clouds our judgement and has allowed people to be - like a child reading a fairytale - infatuated by lying politicians and vote for extremists and thugs.
It is no secret that 2002 riots occurred, it is no secret that the National government only sees the "Hindu" in Hindustan, and it is no secret that many governmental decisions are undertaken to counter the very concept of "for the people". The statement is actively turned into "for some of the people", and that is something more than 50 crore individuals voting for glorified thugs in 2019 Lok Sabha agree with or ignored.
The reason I come so hard on politics, it is because politics is supposed to manage a nation. Not manage a community. The task is to ensure growth and development, applying schemes, maintaining law and order and not provoking riots which can disrupt it. However, as I said that Indian politics is commented on by everybody, it is because the power politics provides to individuals actively stems out into the normal community.
Setting up a fruit stall, very basic concept, requires clearance which legally should not take more than 7-10 days, however, ends up taking more than 30 (post bribe). So what should have been a simple legal method of functioning turns into a political battle of the wits. Delhi University, the birthplace of great minds? No, the place where upcoming MLAs and political leaders are found. Politics has been something which like it or not, impacts everything you do today.
The line between governmental action and the freedom of individuals is blurred and it is fading fast. The more it fades, the more complicated and worse it becomes for democracy in India. So, after all that, the real question comes; the people we elect - if they are not working for the country then why do we vote for them?
And that is the reason I ask, does India deserve democracy?
